Skansen built by A.Hazelius in 1891 is the first open air-museum on the earth. His ideas which show people’s everyday life by vernacular houses, church and shops were diffused in Europe, US and Japan. We should not forget the fact that animals and plants in Sweden are also exhibited. Wales and Northern Ireland have an open-air museum respectively. Those founders were geographers who had graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. This paper focuses their ideas and concepts from a viewpoint of historical geography.

New Shinkansen lines had started operation in Nagano, Tohoku and Kyushu area. Many reports describe regional changes, however, few refer evaluation about economic and social impacts. To overcome problems of new Shinkansen lines, geographical evaluation and advice are valuable.
For example, the terminal of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, named Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto after nearby Hakodate city and Hokuto city, faces problems connected with geographical issues. Two cities have been opposed over the name, and although it is going to establish in spring of 2016, the eclectic name disappointed them. In addition, the developers canceled the building hotel because of unprofitability.

Hardly 25 years passed since Chernobyl accident and mankind had to face the aftermath of another nuclear disaster - Fukushima. Even though there were differences between Fukushima and Chernobyl with regard to triggers and technological details but the two events seem to be similar when environmental and social impacts are coming to the fore. Social trends having taken place in the Chernobyl region for more than quarter of a century represent a model to be considered for the assessment of perspectives in the Fukushima region.

Large landslides such as rock slides are important geomorphic processes for building high-relief mountains. In this presentation, we describe rock slide deposits beneath presumed glacial sediments in the Tanbosawa basin, the Hida Mountains in central Japan. Rock clasts with jigsaw structure, a diapir-like uprise gravel layer, high-angle shear surfaces all of which are common in rock slide deposits are described.
