Abstract

Fort Chan Hai, which is the subject of this study, is one of the World Heritage Sites of Hue in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam, and only those forts located closest to the coast are registered. However, a total of 17 forts are listed on the BAVH, and in order to properly evaluate this fort as a World Heritage Site, it is necessary to understand the historical background in which the fort group was formed and to grasp its overall picture. This study reconstructs the locations of 17 forts from the Nguyen Dynasty period and clarifies the process of their transition from the Nguyen Dynasty to the present.
