Patient: A 64-year-old woman who had occlusal contacts only in anterior teeth and who had lost molar occlusal support presented with the chief complaint of pain in residual ridges under the denture base and dislodgement of crown restorations in anterior teeth. An overdenture on the maxilla and a partial denture with occlusal rests of the onlay type on the mandible were set, resulting in improvement of her mastication ability.
Discussion: An overdenture on the maxilla contributed to denture stability by getting adequate support and balanced occlusion.
Conclusion: For this case in which occlusal contacts existed only in anterior teeth and molar occlusal support was lost, functional improvement was obtained with an overdenture on the maxilla and a partial denture with onlay rests on the mandible.
