Abstract

Patient: The patient, a 70-year-old female, complained of masticatory dysfunction. She was diagnosed with infraocclusion by analysis of her occlusal vertical dimension (OVD). The OVD was increased using an occlusal splint and treatment dentures before the final prosthesis. As a final prosthesis, maxillary and mandibular removable partial dentures with metal frameworks were also fabricated.

Discussion: After obtaining an adequate occlusal relationship using an occlusal splint and treatment dentures, the final prosthesis was set, resulting in a favorable prognosis.

Conclusion: Masticatory performance test and oral health related quality of life (OHIP-14) total score in this case improved. The results suggest that this treatment is effective for partially edentate patients with infraocclusion.
