Following the brief introduction, the writer discusses problems related to techniques in library science under five topics, namely I. Science and practice, 2. Substance of techniques, 3. Library science and technology, 4. The future of the library science.
Systematization of the contents of the library science has been tried by not a few forerunners, but in almost all cases confusion is observed because of the lack of a well established method to organize objects. Also the qualifications of an ideal librarian is mixed up with the substance of the library science. To make the matter clearer, the problems related to techniques employed in libraries are examined along with the question “The librarian-Technician or bookman”.
To cope with the development of communication, those who are concerned with the library science have to clarify the status of libraries in general cultural activities on the one hand and to discover and create techniques capable of controling recorded materials on the other hand.
