After implementation in 2007 of China's first 'Law on Farmers' Specialized Cooperatives,' the number and scale of Agricultural Machinery Service Organizations (AMSOs) have increased. Within these AMSOs, Agricultural Machinery Specialized Cooperatives (AMSCs) have taken on a most important role in increasing the level of mechanization in food-producing areas. A particularly pressing issue for the AMSCs in their pursuit of efficiency is the need for the consolation and rationalization of the scattered and small-scale holdings that are common in rural areas today. This paper takes up the RF Agricultural Machinery Cooperative in Heilongjiang Province, the main grain producing area in China, as a case study. It analyzes the process of farmland accumulation through land investment as well as the changes in dividend policy.
