Spectrophotometric Determination of the Chemical Yield in Radiochemical Neutron Activation Analysis of Selenium

A spectrophotometric method for measuring the chemical yield in radiochemical neutron activation analysis of selenium in feedstuffs and biological materials is described. The method is based on measuring the absorbance at 350nm, which is due to the 5-nitro-2, 1, 3-benzoselenadiazole complex formed between selenium and 4-nitro-1, 2-diaminobenzene. The technique was checked against radiotracer techniques using ⁷⁵Se or ^81mSe, and was illustrated by results for different botanical samples and certified reference materials.
