A high resolution ICP-MS was combined with an ultrasonic nebulizer to analyze trace amounts of lanthanoid and actinoid elements in terrestrial water samples in Japan. This analyzing system attained excellent detection power and, hence, it was proved possible to determine sub-ppt levels of lanthanoid and actinoid elements in water samples directly, with no sample pre-treatment, with acceptable speed and precision.
