The pollutants emitted from industrial boilers fired with coal and its mutagenicities were analyzed and evaluated by dual-detector high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and Ames test, When coal briquettes were used instead of raw coal in boilers, the total suspended particles (TSP) emitted decreased approximately by 60% in weight. SO2 decreased approximately by 40%, and the Ames mutagenicities of emissions from burning coal briquettes are lower than that by raw coal.
