BIOSYNTHESIS OF THE _D-INOSITOL MOIETY

Abstract

The incorporation of various ¹⁴C-labeled compounds into the _D-inositol moiety was studied. Among U-¹⁴C-maltose, U-¹⁴C-glucose, U-¹⁴C-mannose, 1-¹⁴C-glycerol, U-¹⁴C-pyruvate, 1-¹⁴C-acetate, U-¹⁴C-myoinositol, 1-¹⁴C-glycine, 2-¹⁴C-glycine and ¹⁴C-_D-inositol, only U-¹⁴C-myoinositol was incorporated at a high rate. From the dilution test of _D-inositol, _D-inositol was proved not to be a precursor of the _D-inositol moiety of kasugamycin. The radiogaschromatography of ¹⁴C-kasugamycin showed the conversion of U-¹⁴C-myoinositol to the ¹⁴C-_D-inositol moiety of kasugamycin.
