The guinea-pigs given single or multiple electroshock convulsions and control animals were subjected to the rapid intravascular perfusion with ORTH's fluid. The electric current (20V, 16mA, 60 cycle) was applied to the retroauricular region of the head for 5 seconds. The excised brains were fixed in ROSSMAN's fluid, and the sections were stained with the lead-tetra-acetate-SCHIFF method.
Immediately after a single shock the neocortex generally reveals a moderate decrease in glycogen content in the molecular layer, while the substantia nigra, formatio reticularis of the bulb, and inferior olivary nucleus show a moderate to slight increase.
