Abstract

Effect of different water temperatures on lysozyme activities isolated from serum and extracts of skin mucus, kidney, spleen and liver of eels, Anguilla japonicawere investigated. Eels were reared separately in individual aquarium adjusted at 15°C, 20°C, 25°C and 30 °C. Lysozyme activity was measured by the turbidimetric method using acetone-ether dried cells ofMicrococcus lysodeikticusas substrate.
The highest lysozyme activity was observed at 15°C after 3 weeks of rear in all the samples studied. One exception was kidney extract where lysozyme activity was highest at 20°C. Thus it can be said that the lower the water temperature the higher the enzyme activity.
It is concluded that the changes of lysozyme activities were due to the water temperature and at lower water temperatures lysozyme activity raised remarkably.
