Abstract
The subject of this paper is to clarify the actual condition of environmental preservation of rural settlement's activities in middle basin of Nakagawa river. The conclusions are as follows: 1) The consciousness of the rural settlements for the environment of Nakagawa river is high, the cleaning and beautification activities that preserve the local environment including “river cleaning” are carried out a lot. 2) The environmental preservation of rural settlement's activities is characterized by (1) rural settlement's leadership and administration's leadership, and (2) the activities for the improvement of environment and the activities for the solution of the environmental problem.
