New village Construction Program and Rural-Urban Integration Policy in China

Abstract

The New Village Construction Program is the hottest keyword in China's rural development from 2005 onwards. In this paper, the authors introduced this New Program and showed its characteristics. We found that the rural development policy can contribute little to correction of the rural-urban disparity. Because the rural-urban integration policy is backing the New Program up, we can expect some effect on cancellation of the disparity. Finally we pointed out some difficulties lying ahead of the New Program.
