We evaluated the agricultural practice with environmental consciousness from a view point of energy consumption. Various kind of energy consumption in the edible mustard plant and green soybeans production with environmental consciousness was investigated in north-eastern Chiba prefecture and compared to that by the standard agricultural practice. Indirect energy consumption by agricultural practice with environmental consciousness was significantly lower because of smaller amount use of chemical fertilizer and pesticide. They were controlled to a minimum level based on diagnosis of soil and plant condition. Such diagnosis and traceability system would make consumers understand added value to the farming itself and its products.
