Abstract
Local towns are facing a serious loss of the younger generation. In this study, we thought that high school students represented for younger generation. To know their sense for residence, a questionnaire was carried out at a high school in Fuji area, Shizuoka pref. and was analyzed using multinomial logit models in order to clarify the factors affecting their choice on place of living, particularly the conditions for which they would return to their hometown. Samples were grouped into two types, namely nature-oriented and urban-oriented, which showed different preferences for their living and working environments. This result revealed that the students are not only seeking for urban attractiveness but also appreciating a rich natural environment of their region.
