A New Method of Spatial Effect to Japanese-style Room by Shoji Projection Mapping

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to create new ways of enjoying and added value in traditional Japanese rooms (Washitsu) using digital technologies. This paper proposes a new Washitsu performance method by projection mapping, while utilizing the features of Tategu and Washitsu. Concretely, "Digital Shoji", "Tokonoma Installation" was carried out as techniques to create new attractiveness while maintaining the goodness of conventional Washitsu space. This paper investigates new utilization of shoji and possibility of Washitsu space performance. As a result of the verification experiment by this method, it was shown that the proposed method creates new attractiveness of fittings and is effective for the performance improvement of Washitsu space.
