Pitch-matching experiments of pure tones to short FM tones, with four different types of frequency change around the medium auditory frequencies, were made under the condition that the FM tone had a relatively single pitch character. The patterns of frequency change per burst were step, ramp, triangle, single or double cycles of sinusoid, in both positive and negative directions. The means of pitch-matching frequencies generally shift towards the final frequency of the bursts and this shift is more obvious for rising ramp than for falling one. These are also true for the frequency change, such as triangular or sinusoidal change, which alters its direction onceor more during the burst duration, if the direction of the change near the burst end is considered.
