Arg-Gingipain Inhibition and Anti-bacterial Activity Selective for Porphyromonas gingivalis by Malabaricone C

Abstract

  Effects of malabaricon C, isolated from nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), on Arg-gingipain activity and growth of several kinds of anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms were investigated. Malabaricone C irreversibly inhibited Arg-gingipain by 50% at a concentration of 0.7 μg/ml and selectively suppressed Porphyromomas gingivalis growth.
