Abstract
Several experiments were made in order to clarify the reason why Aerobacter aerogenes strain A can grow well on D-glutamate-K2HPO4 medium, while it can not grow on L-glutamate medium at neutral pH value. The permeabilities of L- and D-glutamic acids to the bacterial cell membrane seem to play some important role on this phenomenon judging from several experimental results on growth tests and enzymatic studies.
