Abstract

1) In order to study the relationship between α-KGA productivity and taxonomical classification, 141 strains of identified yeast were cultivated in the media containing n-paraffins. The high productivity of α-KGA was found exclusively in Candida lipolytica.
Since the productivity of α-KGA was seen in all the strains of Candida lipolytica tested, this ability seemed to be a common property of this species.
2) Thiamine requirement was examined with 63 strains of yeast which well assimilate n-paraffins. Most of the Candida lipolytica employed clearly showed this requirement.
3) It was shown that thiamine stimulatedthe activity of α-KGA dehydrogenase o Candida lipolytica AJ 5004.
4) From these results, relationship betweei thiamine requirement and the productivit_??_ of α-KGA was discussed.
5) α-KGA productivity of five representa tive strains of Candida lipolytica was examines and two of them showed the same ability o_??_ α-KGA production as that of AJ 5004.
