The procedure of hemolysis test was modified by diluting the hydrogen peroxide reagent from 0.036% used by Fischer et al.4) to 0.0085%. By this modified procedure, hemolysis of fragile erythrocytes from chicks and rats fed dilauryl succinate can be determined with a standard deviation of 23.4 and 19.0%, respectively, while that of normal erythrocytes with a standard deviation of 1.29% for both chicks and rats. The upper 99% confidential limit of hemolysis of normal erythrocytes of both chicks and rats was estimated to be 3.1%. The component of variance between animals in the hemolysis of fragile erythrocytes from chicks and rats was similar, while that between tubes from chick was much larger than that from rat. Least significant difference between 2 hemolysis value was estimated on these data.
