Isolation of New Metabolites from Aspergillus sydowi and Structure of Sydowic Acid

Abstract

Four new metabolites have been isolated from Aspergillus sydowi and named sydowic acid, sydowinin A, sydowinin B, and sydowinol, respectively. Sydowic acid, C₁₅H₂₀O₄, forms colorless needles, mp 151°C, [α]D-6.4°. Sydowinin A, C₁₆H₁₂O₆, forms pale yellow needles, mp 218_??_220°C. Sydowinin B, C₁₆H₁₂O₇, forms yellow needles, mp 220°C. Sydowinol C₄₆H₁₄O₇, forms yellow needles, mp 157_??_159°C, [α]D-51° The structure of sydowic acid was shown to be represented by formula I on the basis of spectroscopic data.
