Isolation and Structure Elucidation of Antiphenicol, An Antagonist of Chloramphenicol

Abstract

Antiphenicol, an antagonist of chloramphenicol, was isolated from the culture filtrate of Streptomyces fulvoviolaceus No.851. It has a molecula formula, C₇H₅NO₅, and was determined as 2-amino-3-carboxy-1, 4-benzoquinone 5, 6-epoxide. It is anew nitrogen-containing derivative of cyclohexene epoxide from the microbial origin.
