The study discusses the relationship between coach and player with regard to changes in the internal and the external environment during the growth process. The player, in this case, is the author, MANA ENDO, and the coach is the author’s father, who has not had any coaching experience. The coach did not teach the player only to improve her performance. He also had wanted her to be someone with a broad outlook in life, to live a full life, and to train for mental toughness as a human being by playing tennis.
From this experience, the author learned what coaching essentially is. Coaching is an art that both coach and player make together based on mutual trust although sometimes they experience conflict and compete with each other. To achieve their goal as athletes, it is important for both coach and player to obtain as much useful knowledge for the match, to create new technique and strategy, and to do some effective training with proper understanding of their training aims and significance.
