INFLUENCE OF ADRENOCORTICOTROPIC HORMONE (ACTH) ON THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF CORTICOSTEROID IN VITRO

The influence of ACTH on corticosteroid biosynthesis in beef adrenal in vitro was studied and the following result was obtained.
1. ACTH increased the corticosteroid biosynthesis in beef adrenal slices.
2. The major fractions produced were hydrocortisone, cortisone and corticosterone, and hydrocortisone was remarkably increased by the addition of ACTH.
3. In adrenal homogenate, the corticosteroid biosynthesis was not influenced by ACTH.
