Abstract
1. 2-Azaadenine and 2, 6-diaminopurine analogues of ATP were accumulated in human erythrocytes, which had been preserved for 8 to 10 weeks, by incubating with the bases and inosine.
2. Active influx of potassium and shape change were demonstrated in the cells accumulating 2-azaadenosine triphosphate in contrast to 2, 6-diaminopuine riboside triphos-phate.
3. Riboside triphosphate of 2-azaadenine, but not of 2, 6-diaminopurine, was attacked by sodium-potassium dependent and ouabainsensitive ATPase from erythrocyte membrane.
We wish to express our gratitude to Prof. M. Nakao for his valuable criticism and also our thanks to Dr. M. Miyamoto, President of Blood Plasma Institute, for gifts of blood materials.
