Abstract
A horseshoe mapping has been numerically observed in the planar-circular restricted three-body problem. This numerical result has several implications. First, we can conjecture that there is a sequence of bands of collision orbits asymptotic to the stable manifolds of periodic orbits. Second, the invariant set for the mapping is fractal and its Hausdorff dimension is obtained. Third, the occurrence of chaotic scattering is assured.
