Resupinatus reviviscens is newly documented from Japan. This species is characterized by dark-colored pleurotoid fruiting bodies, thick-walled pleurocystidia and ellipsoid basidiospores. Japanese specimens exhibited morphological characters largely consistent with the original description. However, some fruiting bodies had intraspecific variation in certain macroscopic traits not observed in the original description, such as the coloration of hairs and gills. Phylogenetic analysis based on the ITS and LSU regions of the nuclear rDNA revealed that the sequences of the Japanese material formed a well-supported clade with that of the holotype, confirming the morphological identification. In addition, these results demonstrated that this fungus is widely distributed across the Pacific region, the eastern United States and the Caribbean.
