The present investigation was made along the narrow belt of the Pacific coast in the vicinity of Akkeshi Prov. Kushiro. The forests studied were composed of Alnus maximowiczif, Betula ermani and Quereus crispula. The forms of the trees are similar to those of the alpine belt. The trees on the terrace fronting toward the ocean show shrub form. In the ravines of this locality, low trees with an shallow-umbrella-shaped crown are often found. The trees occurring in the district influenced by the sea-fog are characterised in respect to form as follows : -i) horizontal-lying upper stem, ii) creeping stem, iii) unbranched short main stem, iv) branching in the lower portion, v)shallow umbrella-shaped crown.
