After the administration of hemolysate or its extract to rats, the liver was examined histologically. In experiments of short duration, slight degeneration of the liver cells was observed using both materials. After 3 months of weekly administration of the hemolysate, fibrous changes were found. From these results, it was suggested that the hemolysate was toxic to liver cells and there may exist some unknown substances in the hemolysate without hemoglobin.
