Analytical method using a liquid chromatography coupled with time-of-flight mass-spectrometry (LC-TOFMS) and tandem mass-spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed for the isolation, identification and quantitation of microwave synthesized phosphorescent Ir(III) and Ru(II) complexes. Isolated complexes were identified by the accurate mass and isotope ion pattern of LC-TOFMS. This method was found to be useful for accurately measuring the mass of these complexes. It was also confirmed that the isomer of Ir(ppy)3 can be separated and detected using the normal phase mode. Furthermore, we established a quantitative method for facial and meridional Ir(ppy)3 using LC-MS/MS. The present method has a high potential as an effective method for separating and quantifying stereoisomers of many complexes.
