Many damages were caused by the ash fallen on board No.5 Fukuryu Maru, a fishing boat which was happened to be on water near Bikini area on March 1, 1954.This investigation was started, as an only research institute in the nearest area, for establishing the method of medical treatment of suffering men who were on board, for disposal of radioactively contaminated materials in order to minimize the damage and for preparation of handling of radioactive materials which may happen in future.
