Though we have an ingeneous method due to Van Vleck(1) to calculate the width of ferromagnetic resonance absorption line, this method seems to be somewhat one sided, since it does not refer to the elementary processes of the relaxation mechanism other than that of spin-spin relaxation in ferromagnetics.
We examine the collision processes between spin waves and 45 conduction electrons. Such a mechanism has been suggested by Bloembergen(2). We adopt the interaction of dipolar type, however this coupling is so small that it gives too long relaxation time τ≈1 sec. at room temperature. This value is obtained under the selection rule that the spin wave quanta of zero momentum are only excited by the perturbation of external microwave field.
