In recent years Glaser has developed the bubble chamber as a powerful instrument in the study of high energy ionizing particles. His mathematical analysis on the critical pressures may be too simple to be well qualified. In this paper, a statistical theory of the ionized bubble formation is developed including the effects of electric dipole and quadrupole moments of molecules of target liquids in addition to their surface tensions. Our numerical values of critical radii and pressures for water, acetone, ethyl alcohol and ethyl ether at temperatures around 100°C are given in diagrams. which show good agreements with experimental results in our knowledge.
