A polar chain polymer of the (-CH2-CHR-)N type in non-polar solvents is considered. The excluded volume effect was taken into account and the average square of dipole moment ‹μ2› was expanded in terms of parameter X which included the interaction potential between CH2 and CHR(or CH2).
If we admit that the dipole moment of monomer can be divided into the direction of C-C bond and that the distribution of the divided moment vector μi is Gaussian, we obtain the following result for ‹μ2›:
