Abstract
What is the smallest converter on the earth that trans-forms chemical energy to mechanical energy? Probably, it is a biological molecule called "kinesin." In these 15 years, to know how such a small molecule (5-6nm) can generate force, various methods, such as genetic engineering, single-molecule motility assays and structural biology were used and revealed quantitative properties of kinesin. In this paper, I will describe what has been revealed by investigating the structures of kinesins.
