Abstract

This study aims to explore how the mastery goal success-approach (MGSA) and the mastery goal failure-avoidance (MGFA) are related to task value. One hundred and twelve high school students responded to a questionnaire including the MGSA scale and the MGFA scale, task values scales, hatred toward FEL, difficulty in FEL, diligence in FEL, and development of academic scores. Canonical correlation method was computed to explore the relation of the MGSA and MGFA to the other scales. In conclusion, it is found that task values, except public attainment and interest values, are positively related to the MGSA and MGFA and that the daily life and the occupational utility values are negatively related to the MGFA and positively related to MGSA, and that MGSA is positively related to diligence in FEL and the MGFA is positively related to development of academic scores.
