Abstract

21 attractions in Changchun Garden are classified into 3 groups according to the disposition features of architecture, hills and water. Large-scale buildings along the control axes were set as the centres of the space for the attractions with a sightseeing function. Attractions with a residential function tended to have regular courtyards and dispersive freetype layouts. Attractions with religious and political functions had independent courtyard spaces which integrate with the surrounding hills. The design of attractions with a sightseeing function was greatly influenced by Western gardening. Although the design of attractions with residential and religious functions generally followed traditional Chinese gardening, partial elements of Western gardening style were evident.
