This study analyzed the arrangement situation of community parks and the distribution of underused lands from the spatial side for Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, which is a suburban city of the metropolitan area, and examined the possibility of utilizing underused lands as a public open space which is managed and operated based on the fixed rule and can be accessed and utilized by local residents.The results are as follows. (1) There was regional difference in the arrangement of community parks.(2) Though farmland was the most abounding for the low unused land which could be utilized as a public open space, there were many underused lands and forests in the urban area edge.(3) The low underused lands with the area of 1,000 m2 is scarce. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the possibility of utilization including the cooperative use with small community parks.
