Notsuke Bay is home to eelgrass (Zostera marina) and is a fishing ground for the lobster (Pandalus latirostris). The effect of land use on the river basin of the inflowing river of the eelgrass beds on Notsuke Bay and the southern side of the bay was examined, and the effect of river water quality on the eelgrass was examined. NO3-N, K, and Ca in river water increased when the river basin forest rate decreased and the basin nitrogen input increased. When NO3-N, K, and Ca in river water increased, the growth mass of eelgrass decreased. The decrease in eelgrass growth mass may be due to an increase in unknown growth-inhibitory substances, which increase with increasing NO3-N.
