Abstract

In 2017 chloroethylene was added to the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Act as a specified hazardous substance. In this study we focused on VC, and measured and evaluated the behavior of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOC) in unsaturated soil. The adsorption/absorption characteristics of each CVOC on four soils were measured and the distribution ratios to each phase in unsaturated soils were calculated. The ratio to each phase varied greatly depending on the type of CVOC and the type of soil. It was found that VC are easily affected by environmental changes such as rainfall and caution is required during surveys and evaluations.
