Abstract

The purpose of this study was to clarify the status of the introduction of the designated manager system and the actual situation of park management and operation, and to examine the effective use of the designated manager system and issues in park management, targeting Tokyo metropolitan city parks. Since more than 90% of the 82 parks have a designated administrator system, and furthermore, designated administrators are selected by special order for disaster prevention parks and cultural asset gardens, the Tokyo metropolitan government has determined that this system is being used effectively. In addition, the for-profit corporations that managed about 30% of the parks tended to be more active in disseminating the latest natural conditions on their homepages, despite the fact that they managed parks in relatively unfavorable conditions with no management offices or stores.
