Abstract

We clarified characteristics of flora and vegetation in Mozu Kofun Group, the national historic site. The results of flora survey showed that the ratio of native plants in twelve tumuluses exceeded 60 percent. Both endangered species and specified alien species were identified. The results of vegetation survey showed that nine forest communities with two lower units were recognized, divided into four types by the difference in the stage of vegetation succession. Fourteen grassland communities with three lower units were recognized, divided into six classes on phytosociology by the difference in environmental conditions. Future conservation and management should include the conservation of endangered species and the extermination of specified alien species.
