Abstract
Information dissemination to citizens plays an essential role in protected area management, and municipal websites are regarded as one of the effective means. This study explored the official websites of 85 Japanese municipalities where Ramsar sites are located and clarified the status. Fifty-one (60%) municipalities had information about the Ramsar sites. Analysis revealed that many municipalities published information about the registration year and the flora and fauna. However, only a few municipalities published information about the registration area and criteria prescribed by the Convention. Furthermore, regarding ecosystem monitoring results and access, information dissemination was low, despite its importance for conservation and utilization. Overall, only a few municipalities provided sufficient information.
