Flucloxacillin (hereinafter referred to as MFI-PC) is a semi-synthetic penicillin which is active against gram-positive bacteria.
The present authors made studies of MFI-PC for its sensitivity against those bacteria, absorption and clinical effectiveness.
1. The mi nimal inhibitory concentration (M. I. C. ) of MFI-PC against Staphylococci obtained from patients ranged between 0. 09 and 3. 12 mcg/ml. The distribution curve of MIC showed the peak at a concentration of 0. 19 mcg/ml against those 30 strains of Staphylococci.
2. The peak serum level of MFI-PC was observed at on e hour following a single oral dose of 250 mg.
3. Transfers of MFI-PC to mother's milk and umblical cord blood were very low.
4. MFI-PC was proved to be effective in 15 out of the 16 patients with gynec ological infections. No marked side effects were encountered.
