Antibacterial action of human placental lysozyme against Clostridium tetani in vitro was studied as well as protective effect of the lysozyme alone in combination with anti-toxin on experimental toxicosis in mice induced by tetanus toxin.
(1) Lysozyme added to anti-toxin and complement in vitro, no enforcing effect was observed on the activity of anti-toxin and complement against Clostridium tetani.
(2) The lysozyme revealed a remarkable action of toxin release from cells without killing the microbes.
(3) A remarkable reinforcing effect of lysozyme was noted on neutralization of toxin with anti-toxin.
