Abstract
Cefpirome (CPR), a newly developed cephem, was given 1 or 2 g b. i. d. for 3-9 days to nine patients with complicated urinary tract infection.
Clinical efficacy was excellent in 1, moderate in 2 and poor in 1 of 4 patients evaluated by the “Criteria for Evaluation of Clinical Efficacy of Antimicrobial Agents in UTI”(3rd ed.) of the Japanese UTI Committee. According to the physicians' evaluation (4 grades: excellent, good, fair, poor), clinical efficacy was excellent in 3 patients, good in 5 and poor in 1.
No adverse reactions were observed. Abnormal laboratory values were found in 3 patients, i.e. slight and transient elevation of GOT in 1 and GPT in 2.
