Abstract
Cefpirome was administered by i v drip infusion to 10 patients with chronic complicated urinary tract infections (UTI) at a dose of 1-2 g b.i.d. for 5 days, and its clinical efficacy and safety were evaluated. The clinical efficacy, assessed according to the criteria of the Japanese UTI Committee, was excellent in 4, moderate in 3 and poor in 2 patients, the overall efficacy rate being 78%. Bacteriologically, all strains (19 strains) were eradicated.
No subjective side effects were observed, but laboratory studies revealed mild elevation of transaminases in two patients
