Abstract
We evaluated cefpirome (CPR), a new cephalosporin, for its clinical efficacy, utility and safety in the treatment of chronic complicated urinary tract infection. The following results were obtained.
1. The clinical response in patients treated with CPR was evaluated by the attending doctors as excellent in 5, good in 3, fair in 1 and poor in 1. According to the Japanese UTl Committee's criteria, it was evaluated as excellent in 5 patients, moderate in 3 and poor in 1.
2. Bacteriologically, 17 (94.5%) of 18 strains were eradicated.
3. No side effects due to CPR were observed; but as to laboratory findings, transient elevation of s-GOT and s-GPT, and slight leucopenia were observed each in two cases.
